In addition to journalism and editorial work, I offer a range of services to support you and your brand or business. This includes consultancy, content creation, copywriting, communications and training. The greater part of my experience is in food and beverage and hospitality, but I am open to enquiries from anyone seeking a strong storyteller that favours a multi-channel approach to content and comms. Copywriting

For more than five years, I was senior content manager overseeing creative and marketing output for The Whisky Exchange under Pernod Ricard. I have extensive experience writing site copy as well as key messaging for activations, launches and campaigns – this includes decks and top line copy to support activities across social media, CRM and print and out of home marketing.

I pride myself on bringing a sense of character, cohesion and narrative to every task and incorporating your tone of voice and brand values in a creative and animating way. If you need an experienced copywriter to give voice to your product, campaign, venue, or brand I’m very much here to help.

Content Creation and Marketing

If you need a suite of articles, blog posts or social media content, I can help find the story your customers need to hear and tell it in the most compelling way possible. I believe sharing stories and articulating ideas is crucial to driving engagement and building trust. My brand and thought leadership work with The Whisky Exchange involved developing rich programmes of content to support strategic marketing activities. I can make sure your web content, press releases, social, editorial and advertising output are all cohesive and complementary.

I am also experienced and more than comfortable offering creative direction for photographers, videographers and designers and have even been known to style cocktails for photo shoots.

Communications

If you need help writing press releases or finding the perfect pitch for journalists or editors, I have the experience to make you stand out. When communicating about wine, restaurants, spirits or cocktails, detail is key. If you’re asking an editor to take your press release about a new bottling of single malt whisky seriously, you need to understand the difference between a barrel and a puncheon and know your single malts from your pot still whiskies. I can bring the deep industry knowledge and attention to detail to make sure your facts are straight, your angles are sharp and your press releases are really singing.

Consultancy

Pitching for new business and want to know the ins-and-outs of cognac, mezcal or what makes the perfect Martini? I offer reports, training and insights into product, market trends and semiotics research across F&B. I have previously provided support to PR and creative agencies with help to understand everything from premiumisation in spirits packaging to the advances of single malt whisky in international markets. Training

Wine, spirits and cocktails are a far richer and more complicated set of categories than they might first appear. If you’re planning to upgrade the spirits offering at your venue and want to make sure your team can speak fluently and enthusiastically about tequila, Armagnac or Japanese whisky, I can arrange tastings and training sessions to make sure they’re ready for even the most exacting of spirits nerds. Likewise, if you’re a creative or comms professional breaking into this world and want me to speak with you and your team to make sure you have a broad and deep understanding of any category of food or drink then shoot me an email, we’ll have lots to discuss.   

Representation

If you’re looking for an ambassador to represent your product to trade and consumers, I can offer my experience pouring, educating and evangelising about great things to drink. I am a veteran of more whisky shows and other consumer facing events than I can possibly count and love few things more than chatting about wine or spirits with the thirsty and the curious. Editorial Support

From my studies in creative writing at The University of East Anglia, to my first jobs in trade publishing prior to branching out into journalism and copywriting, I have always enjoyed shaping and refining the work of others. If you need a reader or editor for your project, I can help you turn a first – or second, or third – draft into the finished article.

I am also available to provide editorial services on an ad hoc or freelance basis. In the past I have managed and mentored writers, providing guidance and training based on a career spent working with words and stories.
